Volunteer Opportunities

Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity to help a small, charitable, independent and modern museum with a whole host of fun, exciting and meaningful activities on day-to-day operations? Then why not become part of our team at The Etches Collection – Museum of Jurassic Marine Life? You don’t have to be an expert in geology or palaeontology; just be passionate, supportive, reliable, fun, and enthusiastic about making the visitor experience as enjoyable as possible.

The museum is located in the idyllic village of Kimmeridge on the Jurassic Coast. As well as the museum gallery, we have a retail shop that sells fossils, toys and educational items, and we also sell snacks, along with hot and cold drinks.

We would very much welcome applications from volunteers who can help us with fundraising (sourcing grant income streams and helping with applications) and also currently seek assistance from volunteers who can help us on Front of House with ticketing and shop sales.

You can do as little or as much volunteering as you like, from one set day a week to weekends or helping us over our holiday seasonal periods. Its up to you!

The role includes:

• Greeting and helping visitors

• Serving visitors on the till (training provided)

• Weekday and weekend shifts are available

• Maintaining cleanliness standards and health and safety codes of practice

• Maintaining shop displays and re-stocking

• Answering questions related to visiting the museum

• Light cleaning/tidying duties to keep the museum inviting and well-presented
