BSL Tour of The Etches Collection 22nd March 2025

This event is by ticket only, limited to 25 places, and targeted at visitors who will benefit from the provision of a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter. *

The itinerary will include :

1) A short (30 – 40 minute) interpreted presentation on the Jurassic Coast of Dorset, a natural world heritage site, and why it is such an important location for Paleontology, the study of ancient life. This will be an interactive activity and there will be an opportunity to handle some real fossils and some replicas of those that are rarer or more fragile.

2) A 45 – 60 minute BSL interpreted tour of the gallery displaying 100’s of different fossils collected by Dr Steve Etches from rocks that formed on the sea floor in the shallow sea that covered the area 152 – 157 million years ago, including the world famous Sea Rex! A complete Pliosaur skull, first discovered in 2022 and subject to further excavation to learn how this, the largest of all marine reptiles, lived and died.

3) An opportunity to browse the museum shop and purchase mementos of your visit.

The event will begin at 5.30 pm but you are advised to arrive for 5 pm

The museum is fully accessible and the event is suitable for all ages from 9 years and over.
